The Centre for Policy Modelling (CPM) is an academic research centre of the Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK. Since its foundation by Professor Scott Moss in 1992, it has been a leading centre for research in social simulation. It has worked for nearly 20 years at the interface of social and computer science. Until his retirement in March, 2009, Moss (latterly with the collaboration of Ruth Meyer) developed a considerable interest in modelling issues relating to environmental management in conditions of uncertainty due to complexity. Complementary developments in complexity, methodology and technique were undertaken by the current director, Bruce Edmonds. The two sets of developments have been strongly synergistic. The CPM has recently been involved in one UK EPSRC project and several EU-funded projects.

Main tasks will be:

  • Knowledge elicitation and translating stakeholder and other expert evidence into rule-based, declarative models and requirements (WPs 1 and 5)
  • Integration of a declarative, agent-based modelling environment into the OCOPOMO modelling platform (WP 2 and WP 3)
  • Policy modelling process design and definition of the rule-based agent design (WP 5)
